Endless
Sun_and_moon_rise.gif - (12K)

Day and night, night and day.
Let's help a Dane, we know the way.
Just a little helps a lot,
But a lot of help is what we've got.
Together we can do great things,
I'm asking you to spread your wings.
Wings? You ask, please realize that
You all are angels in disguise.
You've done so much to help our friends,
I hope this friendship never ends.
There will always be a Dane in need,
It's up to you to plant the seed.
Just like the cycle of day and night,
Endless support, it feels so right!

Thank you for your endless support!

           THANK YOU!

BREAKING NEWS:

 2011 POOCH PARADE~~A FLOP?
Well, let's just say the day of the Pooch Parade 2011 was as hot as the day is long!  Due to the extreme heat, we had a very small turn out.  A total of 5 dogs walked and only 3 made it to the finish line with a heavy coated retriever arriving late to his benefit!  The temperature soared into the high 90s with very high humidity.  I don't blame any of you for not showing up!  I didn't even bring my dog to the parade!  We really should have cancelled, but didn't quite know how to notify everyone.  Needless to say, we gathered no supplies and only raised $110 to be divided between 5 facilities.  It was mentioned to hold on to the money and add it to our next fundraiser.  We aren't sure what to do just yet, but I will post it asap.  Thank you, participants, for coming and supporting our cause.  We hope our next efforts will be more successful.
Special "THANKS" goes out to Dave and Dorothy Hill and her son, Kyle, for helping me set up and tend the Pooch Parade.  Also, a big thanks for donating such wonderful door prizes.  I'm sorry we didn't make as much as they were worth.   P.S.~Thanks for sweating through the day with me!!

Two Great Danes Found After 5 Day Search:  December 2010 Two Great Danes, a fawn and a mantle (black with white markings), were lost  shortly after Thanksgiving.   On Hawthorne Hill Road, outside of the Shadyside/Bellaire area, the owners of the Danes were taking Christmas decorations out through the basement door.  The dogs got out and took off.  The owners searched for days, fearing the worst.  It was gun season and the fawn colored Dane resembles a deer.  The weather was also a fear factor.  The Danes are short-haired and the temperatures were below freezing with heavy, cold rain turning into freezing rain and snow at night.  On the fifth day of searching, the owner was traveling Sand Hill out of Neffs when she spotted what she thought was a deer far down in a field near the woods.  She kept watching and then saw the black and white Dane!  It was them!  They got out of the car and began yelling for them.  She called her son to bring the van. He couldn't believe they were alive! The Danes, thin and exhausted, came up to the road but they were on the wrong side of an electric, barbed-wire fence! He had to jump the fence to walk them to the gate.  They were finally going home!  It was a Christmas miracle!  They both received warm baths and small meals at first so as not to cause bloat.  They spent Christmas safe and warm in their home as a family reunited.

April 2010 -- The Easter Bunny was on a late run approximately one week after Easter Sunday.
It was reported that there were some Easter eggs allegedly distributed throughout a yard near
a playground.  Later that day, said eggs were sniffed out by a large pack of wild Great Danes who
then consumed the contents.  It was an incredible sight and was fortunately caught on film by our
top photographer!

February 2010 -- Sorry, Riley!  There is yet another very large Dane our there!!  Giant George is in the process
of being registered as the World's Tallest Dog!  He weighs in at 245 lbs and
measures nearly 43 inches at the shoulder!
To check this guy out, visit his website
www.giantgeorge.com

January 2010 -- We are very heavy-hearted to announce that we have lost two special members this January,
Punkin and Tucker.  To visit their memorials, CLICK HERE.

Fall 2009 -- We are very sorry to announce that Gibson, the world's tallest dog,
has recently passed away due to bone cancer.  To learn more, visit his website www.gibsondog.com .

December 2009 --It was announced in the newspaper that a Newfoundland has been named the world's tallest dog
at 36 inches at the shoulder.  Our very own Tecate is 36 inches at the shoulder.  We all learned
that a new member of the BDB is even taller than Tecate, which means he is taller than the
new world's tallest dog.  Riley, a brindle who joined the BDB this Spring, had Tecate by a good
two or three inches and is still growing!!  He will be 2 years old in January 2010.  We are interested
to see just how tall this guy is going to get!!  Just think, the tallest dog in the world is right here in our
BIG DOG group spreading good will to homeless Great Danes!!! We need to get Riley registered
as the world's tallest dog!!!!!

Summer 2009 -- Merlin, a BIG DOG Bunch member, has been involved in making changes to a familiar
storybook tale called "The Tortoise and the Hare".  Merlin thought it to be more exciting to add
a mischeivious Great Dane into the story's moral.   Merlin took it upon himself to catch a baby bunny
in which his owners confiscated promptly.  Later that same day, it was reported that Merlin had
found a box turtle and transported it by mouth to the middle of the yard where, again, the creature
was confiscated.  Both animals were returned, unharmed, to the wild where they belong.  Merlin
has changed history as well as the title of the story.  You now know the new tale "The Tortoise,
The Hare and The Dane".

Our Mission

We are a nonprofit group who's goal is to raise awareness and funds for homeless Great Danes.
Our other goal is to have fun at our meetings!!

Any Great Dane can be a member!!  There are no membership fees, just donations!!

$5.00 or more donation.....................Your Dane will receive a tag that states "I'm a member of the BIG DOG Bunch"

All donations will be charity.  We are no longer subtracting funds to cover the costs of fund-raisers.  What I put into the BDB
serves as my donation. My out-of-pocket costs that purchase supplies for our meetings, including paper, pens, clipboards,
complimentary dog treats, door prizes, dog tags, miscellaneous items for sale, stamps, ink carts, etc. are my contributions that
I use to create opportunities to make larger donations than I could ever make myself.   I love what I do when it comes to The
BIG DOG Bunch.  It is better than I imagined it would be and  I will continue to do my best to raise money for our homeless
Dane friends.  ~~~Sharissa Greenwood, Founder & Organizer

Charity will be sent to Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue of Ohio and/or to The Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League in
Maryland (this rescue covers all of WV) to supply many homeless Great Danes with food, medical care and general supplies.
Those on our mailing list will receive a report after each meeting describing how much money we raised for charity.
I will also post this information below, which will be updated after each meeting.

At the October 13, 2007 meeting, we raised a total of $18.00.
                     $1.00 for each tag distributed=$3.00 to fund-raisers
$15.00 in donations to Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue in Ohio!!
I also received a $25.00 donation from my grandmother, Phyllis Day, which I am using for stamps & supplies.

At the December 3, 2007 meeting, we raised a total of $54.00!!!  WOW!!!
                     $1.00 for each tag distributed=$3.00 to fund-raisers

We are planning a HUGE fund-raiser to take place on Sept. 5, 2009 during the Shadyside Community Days
in Shadyside, OH.  It is a dog parade for all breeds with a registration/donation fee of $5.00 per dog.
All money made will benefit our Great Dane rescues as well as our local animal shelters.  We are also doing
a supplies drive for our local animal shelters.  We are reserving some of the donations to fund this event.
So we have decided to add the $2.00 to the wopping $198 to make an even $200 to donate to our rescues.
The on-line and snail mail donations are being reserved for the upcoming event.
$100.00 donation to Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue in Ohio!!!
$100.00 donation to the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League in Maryland (covers Northern WV)!!!

The Pooch Parade was a success with 35 dogs attending!  We raised $250 between registration, sales and donations!!  This
event was planned to give back to our local community as well.  We divided the total amount by five and sent
each of the following facilities a $50 donation:  Belmont County Animal Shelter, Harlequin Haven Great Dane
Rescue, Marshall County Animal Shelter, Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, and Ohio County Animal Shelter.
We also had a supplies drive.  It wasn't as successful as the parade itself, but we received a few donations.  Some
blankets, towels and dog toys were donated to Marshall County Animal Shelter.  There weren't enough to divide and
deliver to all the facilities.  Maybe we will have better luck next year!
Special thanks goes out to Dave and Dorothy for all your help!!  It was great to see some of our members attending!!

$60.00 donation to the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League in Maryland (covers Northern WV)!!!
$2.00 was used to cover the cost of the money orders.
We know this is a hard time to donate money and greatly appreciate all the donations and raffle sales.  Thank you!!
The Spring 2010 meeting was a very nice turn out with 12 Great Danes attending!!  We raised a total of $109.00 in donations and
raffles!!  Way to go BDB!!!!  Rounding up, donations are as follows:
$55.00 donation to Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue in Ohio!!!
$55.00 donation to the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League in Maryland (covering Northern WV)!!!
Thank you BDB Members for a great Spring success!!!  Thanks again to Dave & Dorothy for donating a door prize!

Pooch Parade 2010 was a very nice success!!  We had 25 dogs attending and raised a total of $235 and enough supplies
to donate the following to each local animal shelter:  2 blankets, 2 sheets, 4 towels,  2 or 3 pillows, some toys/small supplies
and a can of dog food.  The shelters were very appreciative of our efforts and donations.  We sent a $50 donation to each
The Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League and Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue.  The local animal shelters, Belmont
County, Marshall County and Ohio County, each received a $45 donation as well as the supplies we gathered.   We would

We couldn't be happier with The BIG DOG Bunch 's success!  It gives us goose
bumps to think of everyone's generosity and how much difference we are making in the lives of those Danes who have been
neglected, starved, wounded and abused.  It takes special people to keep this going and we can't thank God enough for our
members who make it happen.

THANK YOU, BDB MEMBERS, FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!! THIS WOULDN'T BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT YOU!!!

                                                                                         Homeless Great Danes

There are, on average, 60 - 80 homeless Great Danes at the Ohio Great Dane Rescue (links above and below).
That's not including Danes in animal shelters statewide.  We encourage all our visitors to stop by and read some of the stories the
homeless Great Danes have to tell at Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue in Ohio. CLICK HERE TO READ A HOMELESS
GREAT DANE'S STORY
Once you are there, just click on an adoptable Great Dane's name to read his/her story.   Be careful,
once you read one, you'll want to read them all!!   WARNING!!!   Some of the stories are very sad and some of the pictures are
very graphic.   You may be compelled to cry.   If you do, you're not the only one!
There is also an average of 60-80 Great Danes at the The Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue who need homes.  They all have their
own stories, too.  Their expenses (dog food, vet bills, utilities, etc.) for the month of July, 2010 came to $41,685.65.  The goal of The BIG
DOG Bunch is to raise money to help these rescues pay their bills.  Please stop by their website by clicking on the link above and
visit their homeless Danes.  Don't forget to make a donation!

WE WELCOME ALL GREAT DANES, PUREBRED AND MIXED!!   A DANE IS A DANE, NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!

                                                                                             Our On-line Store
We now have an on-line store selling T-shirts, sweatshirts, gifts and more!! How it works: Cafepress.com offers us a free store.  They have
"base prices" for each of their items.  There is an extra $3.00 fee for printing on both sides of an item.  Then, we add our mark-up, which is
generally $5.00.  That $5.00 is what we use as our donation to the Great Dane rescues mentioned above.  So, in review, we make approximately
$5.00 from each item we sell!  It is a win-win situation: You purchase a shirt for yourself or a gift, we make $5.00 to donate to the rescue, and you
feel great wearing your shirt knowing you helped shelter, feed and medicate homeless Great Danes!!  It doesn't get any better than that!!  So, visit
our store today!!  Just click on the link below and you're on your way!!

How You Can Help Us Help Danes

There are things you can do to help us help homeless Great Danes.  We are just getting started with our organization and we will
grow with your help.  The future of The BIG DOG Bunch (BDB) will hopefully include a facility to shelter local Great Danes in need
of a home.  We have already had multiple situations where Great Dane owners had to give up their large dog and called us for help.  We
currently have no place to keep homeless Danes, but we do all we can to help find homes for these dogs.  The BDB can only advertise and
make phone calls to do so at the present time.  With your help, we can help others and provide a retreat for those Danes in need.  By
clicking the Donate button below, you can make a donation that will help us get one step closer to our goal.  We greatly appreciate your support!!!
